Birmingham ended the impressive winning run last weekend but they will, nevertheless, be very happy with one point from Goodison and the St Andrew’s Blues enter the match with London Blues in very good spirits. Chelsea made another slip-up as they could take only one point from Upton Park, but they surprisingly increased their advantage at the top since United lost away to Fulham.Birmingham managed to create a big advantage over the bottom three after winning five straight games and the Blues are on the road to virtually ensure survival even before Christmas. Their remarkable run ended at Goodison, where they managed to pick up one point despite being completely outplayed by the Toffees and now Alex McLeish’s men can test their skills against probably the best team in the league without worrying too much about the final result. The hosts are, nevertheless, expected to adopt a cautious approach and seeing they failed to score in last four home games against Chelsea, we see a good value in backing .Alex McLeish has received a major boost since both Stuart Parnaby and Martin Taylor have fully recovered from injuries and they will be back in contention for the Chelsea game. This leaves only Gary O’Connor, David Murphy and Teemu Tainio on the sidelines, which is not that bad considering the difficult injury situation from few weeks back. Nevertheless, we expect the boss to field the same starting line-up for the seventh consecutive game. Chelsea were very lucky not to get punished by either Manchester United or Arsenal for their poor run of form, and once the Blues again hit the ground running, the league title will be very close. Carlo Ancelotti and his side are preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations which starts in January since the Italian will lose four players for at least few weeks. However, all those players (apart from injured Essien) will be available for the Birmingham game which Chelsea simply have to win. We don’t think the hosts have enough quality to get something from this match, thus betting on is the right thing to do.Michael Essien and Jose Bosnigwa remain the only unavailable players at the moment, but Nicolas Anelka should return to the starting line-up after being rested against West Ham. The Frenchman will resume his attacking partnership with Didier Drogba and when they play together, Ancelotti has no reason to worry about where the goals will come from. The Ivorian striker will try to give his best before he leaves for Angola and our advice is to back . Birmingham cannot be expected to continue with good performances for much longer and the poor game against Everton showed their form was on the downtrend. Chelsea are eager to return to winning ways and we don’t think they will have too many problems in this match, thus betting on Chelsea to win to nil looks like the right thing to do.
