West Ham climbed out of the relegation zone after beating Burnley 5:3 but they will not have a lot of time to celebrate since they are set to host Manchester United. United had an easy job against Portsmouth last weekend, while they also made it to the Carling Cup semi-finals by eliminating Tottenham and the visitors are eager to continue the winning run. West Ham are still struggling to escape the dangerous zone although the win over Burnley was a step in the right direction. However, Gianfranco Zola was definitely not happy after the match since his side allowed Burnley to score three goals in the final stages of the game, while star striker Carlton Cole picked up a serious injury that will sideline him for at least one month. With Matthew Upson also ruled out of the United game, the Hammers’ chances of a positive result are severely decreasing. However, we feel obliged to point out that the Hammers scored no less than 12 goals in last 5 league games at Upton Park, thus we see a good value in backing . As we have already said, Zola faces major selection worries with key players Matthew Upson and Carlton Cole out of contention, while Alessandro Diamanti remain an injury doubt. Davenport, Ashton and Boa Morte remain long-term absentees and they have been out for quite a while. The biggest problem at the moment is the poor defensive record since the Hammers are simply conceding too many goals and the trend looks likely to continue with key defender Upson unavailable. Manchester United stayed close to rivals Chelsea in the Premiership after overcoming Portsmouth at Fratton Park, while their second string proved their potential by beating almost full strength Tottenham side in the Carling Cup. Now Alex Ferguson faces a real selection headache before the trip to Upton Park but for all the right reasons. United have recovered well from defeats to Chelsea and Besiktas and they seem to have rediscovered their form, thus we expect them to continue the good run against weakened West Ham side. The Red Devils are scoring goals with ease lately and you should know .Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves remain long-term absentees but Fergie is hoping to have Van der Sar, Evans and O’Shea fit for the trip to London. Even if the aforementioned players fail to recover it will be no problem since the youngsters have really impressed against Tottenham and a couple of them are expected to be in contention for the starting places. Key players Rooney, Evra, Fletcher and others will return after being rested in midweek and Ferguson will have a big squad to choose from. West Ham have played some good football lately but their defence is too shaky to cope with United’s attackers. The hosts are missing two key players in Upson and Cole and we therefore don’t think the Hammers have what it takes to stop Manchester from winning this match.
