Portsmouth are sitting at rock bottom and we are pretty sure they won’t be too downhearted by the Carling Cup exit from Aston Villa. This is a must-win game for Pompey since Burnley are the team they can definitely beat. The Clarets remained well clear of the bottom three despite the 5:3 defeat to West Ham but the poor away record doesn’t give them much reason for optimism. Due to their difficult situation in the Premiership, we didn’t expect Pompey to put too much emphasis on their Carling Cup clash with Aston Villa and it was definitely not a surprise to see Villa emerge victorious. Manager Avram Grant missed a couple of players who were cup-tied, while he opted to rest a couple of others, which means he will have his star players fresh and rested for the crunch tie with Burnley. Seeing that Pompey scored 11 goals in last 4 home games and that Burnley conceded 16 in their last four away matches, we see a great value in backing . Jamie O’Hara and Kevin-Prince Boateng are back to the starting line-up after being cup-tied for the Aston Villa game, while Mullins and Dindane will also return after being rested in midweek. Asmir Begovic is set to continue between the sticks in the absence of David James, whereas Finnan, Bouba Diop and Primus remain long-term absentees. Pompey have a great chance to boost their survival hopes against the team with the worst away record in the Premiership and we expect them to adopt attacking approach from the very start. The hosts are the better team here and our advice is to back .Burnley’s home form is not as good as it was at the start of the season but their performances on the travels remain utterly disappointing. The Clarets have so far only picked up one point from away games but Owen Coyle is probably not too worried by this since his side are sitting in mid table five points clear of the bottom three. We have already mentioned Burnley’s poor defensive record on the travels but the good thing is they are scoring a lot of goals as well, namely 7 in last 3 away games. Therefore, you should really consider backing .Owen Coyle is missing key defender Steven Caldwell through suspension and that will force the boss to make some changes. Andre Bikey is expected to slot back to the heart of defence, in which case Kevin McDonald or Joey Gudjonsson will take his place in midfield. The Clarets are again set to line up in 4-5-1 formation with Steven Fletcher as a lone striker, while Blake and Elliott will provide support from the wings. Portsmouth have the quality to turn this season around and they are definitely the better team here. They simply have to win this game in order to keep their survival hopes alive and the good thing is they are playing Burnley, the team that have picked up just one point from the travels this season.
