Portsmouth missed a great chance to boost their survival hopes as they lost to Stoke after missing a penalty in the opening exchanges and they don’t have much to hope for from this match. Manchester United defeated Everton at the weekend but they then lost to Besiktas in the Champions League and Alex Ferguson will be looking for a response from his players.Paul Hart was hardly the man to blame for Pompey’s disappointing start of the season but he was the man who helped the team boost their survival hopes. He was, nevertheless, sacked with not everyone’s favourite Avram Grant taking over the reigns. We are yet to see what effect this change is going to have on the results but the United game definitely comes at a bad time. Portsmouth missed a chance to be one of just few teams to take some points from Britannia Stadium since Kevin-Prince Boateng missed the first half penalty and his side were later made to pay when Ricardo Fuller scored the winning goal. Pompey now face a very tough task against wounded United and they are unlikely to get anything from this match. Therefore, we see a good value in backing . Herman Hreidarsson returned into action after the lengthy spell on the sidelines and he is likely to keep his place in the starting line-up, while David James is unlikely to be fit after suffering an injury in the warm-up for the Stoke game. Bouba Diop, Utaka and Finnan are also out, while Avram Grant is expected to make some changes to the team that started the Stoke game. Portsmouth are sitting four points adrift of safety and that gap could increase after this game. Therefore, it might be wise to back .The players responded well to the derby defeat to Chelsea since they played a good game against Everton at the weekend but then came another defeat as the second string United side lost at home to Besiktas in the Champions League. Sir Alex Ferguson was disappointed with his players after the Besiktas game but Gabriel Obertan was probably the only player who impressed on the night. The Frenchman is slowly pushing for a starting place and he could be that breath of fresh air the boss is looking for. With Fergie looking for a response after the embarrassing defeat to Besiktas, we expect a strong performance from the visitors and you should consider backing . Sir Alex Ferguson will have Dimitar Berbatov and John O’Shea back after recovering from injuries, while Neville and Park returned into action in midweek. Rooney, Fletcher, Carrick and other first team regulars will return to the starting line-up, but Ferdinand and Hargreaves remain sidelined. United have the chance to close the gap behind Chelsea since the Blues visit Arsenal at the Emirates and we are sure they will take it.Portsmouth are in big problems at the moment and we don’t think Avram Grant has what it takes to turn this season around.
